Mariana Ramos Ortiz is an interdisciplinary artist whose work considers the structural and temporal qualities of sand as they pertain to themes of occupation, self-determination, permanence, and protection in the context of Puerto Rico’s ongoing colonial realities.

They graduated in 2019 from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras with a BA in Humanities and received an MFA in 2021 from the Rhode Island School of Design. They have attended residencies at MASS MoCA, Kala Art Institute, Wassaic Project, Brown University, el depósito, among others. Ramos Ortiz is currently a recipient of the 2023 NALAC Fund for the Arts.

They live and work in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
